Coltsford Mill Wedding, Michael & Stephanie

Last month I was in Kent, photographing another fabulous Coltsford Mill Wedding with the lovely Michael and Stephanie.I never like to risk driving on the M25 on a wedding day, so I'd spent the night before in a hotel in Kent.I woke up fresh as a daisy and headed to Oak House farm, where Stephanie and the bridesmaids were getting ready. The weather forecast for the day was rubbish and promised heavy rain, boo.Michael got ready with his brother at the family home.

St Mary's church, Riverhead, Sevenoaks

It was soon time for me to jump in the wedding car with Stephanie and the bridesmaids and make our way to the church. We were soon at St Mary's and Stephanie made her entrance.  St Mary's is a beautiful church that sits in an elevated position looking out over Riverhead.Following a lovely ceremony, Michael and Stephanie left the church under a shower of rain and confetti.A few group photos were done before the rain really took hold and after we all headed to Coltsford Mill.

Coltsford Mill

All their guests were waiting in the rain under umbrellas.  Stephanie and Micheal arrived at Coltsford and were led into the venue by an amazing Mariachi band. This was a fantastic way to make an entrance.Stephanie was keen to do some portraits with Michael in the beautiful grounds around the Mill, so we grabbed a few umbrellas and braved the rain.I really enjoyed this wedding, it was so emotional and never did the rain look like it was going to effect peoples spirits.

Here's what Stephanie had to say about their wedding

What was your favourite part of the wedding? Our first dance was definitely a favourite part of our wedding. We surprised our guests with a choreographed dance to 'Nothing else matters' by Metallica, full of crazy spins and waltz steps. We had so much fun learning this dance with Jess from Start the Dance UK and to finally show off our hard work was so rewarding. Most of our guests said that this was their favourite part too. There were too many favourite moments to choose from, to highlight a few:

  • It was an amazing experience getting ready with my girlfriends in the morning.

  • Seeing each other for the first time at the church in front of everyone.

  • The private ride after getting married, travelling toward to reception venue.

  • Finally the Mariachi band playing as we reached the venue.

  • The wedding breakfast and our speeches went down really well too

Please let me know about any personal or DIY touches you added to make the day a little more ā€˜youā€™.We tried to input as many personal touches as we could for our day, such as the mariachi band to celebrate my south American heritage, our choreographed first dance as we love to dance and creating our own order of service which ended with a loving statement 'I look at you and I'm home'.For the wedding breakfast, we created a playlist of all our favourite songs using instrumental covers. We had a special moment of singing some of the songs together because of our playlist. We also went to each table during each meal break to say hello to all our guests which I definitely recommend all bridal couple do - this was probably our only chance to speak to everyone that came to celebrate our day.

Why did you choose your venue? We wanted a relaxed atmosphere for our wedding, that was exclusive to our guests and had various different areas that guests could go to. We luckily found this gorgeous barn in Oxted and after our first visit we just knew this would be the place we wanted our reception to be. The venue included a on-the-day coordinator and also a cottage for the Bride and Groom to stay - these were an amazing plus, especially as they decorated the room as you wanted it as part of the price, therefore giving us more free time to focus on other wedding tasks.

How did you find using Lee Dann Photography, were there any particular things about my approach that you liked, and how did you feel about the photos once you received them?We really enjoyed working with Lee Dann! From our engagement shoot, we both were amazed how relaxed he made us feel and how easily we got on with him and felt assured he would be amazing on our day. We personally wanted to have photos that focus on real moments of our special day, those photos you completely forgot a camera was near-by. We were so lucky to find Lee Dann, our photographer to document whatever happens on the day! The photographs came out gorgeous ā€“ we were pretty emotional seeing them. It reminded us of all those butterflies feelings and excitement from the morning to our first dance.

If you were doing it all again what would be the one bit of advice youā€™d give yourself at the start of the planning process?Make sure you plan and keep track on what you've done so far - I did this and it really helped to track the budget and various tasks it takes to plan a wedding. We planned the wedding in a year and it definitely went by really quickly!

I hope you enjoy looking at the photos and if you are planning a Coltsford Mill wedding, drop me a message, I'd love to hear from you.
