As I sit in my garden enjoying the sunshine, I know that Autumn and winter are not too far away.....I love winter weddings! Like this Shrivenham Defence Academy wedding from last December. It was a freezing cold day and a fair few guests, (me included) had to get our cars rescued from a muddy field, but it was an amazing day I really enjoyed photographing.

Here's what Becca had to say about their wedding

What was your favourite part of the wedding?Seeing most of our friends and family in one place. All the tables joined in with singing The Twelve Days of Christmas during the reception, which was really special.

Please let me know about any personal or DIY touches you added to make the day a little more ‘you’.We didn’t get carried away with tiny details, but we did create a narrative in the service by choosing hymns and readings that meant a lot to us. We also made a real effort to get around to talking to everyone, which was very important to us as our friends and family mean a lot to us. It also meant that the day didn’t pass in too much of a blur. Having the pipes and drums and Honour Guard from Tom’s regiment was incredibly touching, and cutting the cake with a handmade sword rounded it off.

Why did you choose your venue?The church was in the village where Becca grew up and where her mum still lives. She had her Christening there and her dad had his funeral there, so it was a very special way of including him in the day. The Officers’ Mess was a natural choice for an Army wedding - and gave us the space we needed!

How did you find using Lee Dann Photography, were there any particular things about my approach that you liked, and how did you feel about the photos once you received them?We really loved Lee’s very relaxed approach. He took the time to get to know us and learnt what we wanted. He has a fantastic storytelling style, with lots of candid shots rather than posed photos, which really captured our day as we experienced it. When we looked through his portfolio we were really struck by how personal each albums was, he’s fantastic as tuning in to the different atmosphere at each wedding. We’re thrilled with the results.

If you were doing it all again what would be the one bit of advice you’d give yourself at the start of the planning process?Relax. Don’t get drawn into the hysteria of people who are trying to sell you things, or other people’s expectations for the day. There’s no such thing as perfect, but you can make it just right by focussing on the things that matter to you - and ignoring everything else.
