Abingdon Abbey Buildings Wedding Photographer, Anna & Michael

In the summer I was in Abingdon near Oxford for a small two hour wedding at the historic Abingdon Abbey Buildings. It’s nice to change gears sometimes and shoot an event that is a little more laid back and somehow more intimate. This is what Anna and Michael’s wedding turned out to be.

Being I was only there for two hours, I was just hired to photograph the main parts, this being the ceremony and drinks reception.

I arrived a little early as I always do and took some scene setting photos, mainly of The Abbey and the unicorn theatre where Anna and Michael were having the ceremony. I also captured some lovely interactions as the guests and Michael waited for Anna to arrive.

Following a beautiful ceremony in the theatre, everyone spilled out into the glorious sunshine to enjoy a drink and some food in the grounds of the Abbey buildings.

I spent the remaining time taking some lovely couple photos before discreetly saying my farewells.

Here's what Anna & Michael had to say about their wedding

What was your favourite part of the wedding?
The whole day was perfect so it's hard to say a favourite moment! Just having all of our loved ones in one location for one day and being able to spend time with them was so special.

Please let me know about any personal or DIY touches you added to make the day a little more ‘you’.
The beauty of the Abbey Buildings is it's very much a DIY venue, but on a stunning historical background. Being able to do all the decorating ourselves and organise a banquet setting for the BBQ feast made it feel that much more special. We spent the day before setting up with Anna's family and were able to have things just as we wanted

It was important to us that the day was relaxed for us and the guests, Anna had the best time dancing to the Irish band and Michael very much enjoyed spending time outside in the "pub garden" that seemed to appear with the help of the groomsmen shifting furniture and the sun shining

The dessert table also seemed to go down well, with Krispy Kreme donuts supplied by Anna's brother and the rest of the treats baked by Anna and friends

Why did you choose your venue?
It's beautiful and local to us! Anna grew up in Oxford and her mum suggested it as a possible venue once we were engaged as she would often go there when she was little, and in turn would take Anna and her brothers, so it felt right. Fortunately Michael agreed too!

How did you find using Lee Dann Photography, were there any particular things about my approach that you liked, and how did you feel about the photos once you received them?
So many of our guests commented about how they didn't even realise there was a photographer as Lee was so unintrusive, especially when we started sharing the pictures from the day where beautiful intimate moments were captured!

The relaxed approach meant we were relaxed for the pictures and they came out perfectly, with our personalities shining through. We were also so pleased to see so many photos of truly candid moments captured with our loved ones and we will be able to treasure them forever

If you were doing it all again what would be the one bit of advice you’d give yourself at the start of the planning process?
Anna: probably don't get quite so stressed over the small things (I don't think I quite hit bridezilla though!)

Michael: do a Google document so I could keep up with Anna's planning

A selection of images from Michael and Anna's Abingdon Wedding

A wedding at the Abingdon Abbey Buildings.

I have photographed many weddings in Oxford and all over the UK. I can see why Anna and Michael chose to get married at the Abingdon Abbey Buildings and the Unicorn Theatre, it’s such an historic location. The photo opportunities were many and it was a dream location for a photographer, with so many fantastic options available.

I really loved working with Anna & Michael, It was such a brilliant wedding.

I hope you enjoy the photos and if you are planning a wedding I'd love to hear from you.

Thanks for looking.
